on the 2nd day of Pentacost
(Shavuoth), TUESDAY, MAY 28

Teens Ready. to Perform Mitzva-but Need Some Wheels. First

Wanted: a mitzva worker
to help some nice kids do a
mitzva of their own.
The kids are some 15-20
members of Michigan State
Temple Youth, the Reform
youth organization, who will
devote six weeks of their
summer vacations to helping
culturally disadvantaged
youngsters of age 6-12.
Mark Sedley, who with his
wife Jane is adviser to
MSTY, explained that the
teen-agers will come from
throughout the state to par-
ticipate in a unique "tutorial
program" at St. Francis
Home for Boys at Linwood
and Fenkell Ayes.
From June 14 to July 26,
the "Mitzva Corps" will
spend six hours a day with

the 147 boys of St. Francis.
The latter are not retarded,
but because of cultural de-
privation have not progressed
to the academic level normal
for their age.
With the youngsters, the
Mitzva Corps will arrange
services, cultural activities,
outings and seminars. The
MSTY members are paying
money out of their own pock-
ets—$50 each—for the privi-
lege of paricipaing. They will
be housed by families in he
area, and Temple Emanu-
El will be "home temple."
There's only one hitch:
they have no transportation
to take them to St. Francis
in the morning and home
again in the afternoon (or
evening after an outing).

Services begin at: 7:30 A.M.
YIZKOR at:
8:40 A.M.

Additional Yizkor services at:
10:00 A.M., 10:30 A.M., 11:00 A.M., 11:30 A.M.,
and the last Yizkor at 12:00 Noon.

and a station wagon or mini-

the call. He will be paid a
salary and car expenses for
the six weeks.

The 'MSTY 'adviser noted
that the Mitzva Corps has
spent seven summers with
youngsters in inner-city
schools "at great cost to
themselves." He said that the
local effort is one of the last
functioning Mitzva Corps pro-
grams in the United States.
