By DAVID DONIN
Our program at Tikv at
Yaakov is not only to learn in
the atmosphere of Israel and
to see the country, but also
to learn about the Israeli way
of life. This is being accom-
plished by each of us being
"adopted" by a different
family in the settlement in
which we are located.
At the beginning of the
year, Rabbi Abramchik and
Rabbi Kushner arranged with
specific families in the mo-
shav, Sde Yaakov, (a coop-
erative agricultural settle-
ment) to "adopt" us for the
year, and for their homes to
became a sort of home away
from home for us.
We were accepted by them
very nicely and were encour-
aged to visit and spend as
much time as we could with
them, and we did. As time
went on, we each started to
establish unique relationships
with them which are still de-
veloping.
The majority of families
which were chosen for us are
farming families. Some of us
have, even started to help
them in picking eggs or milk-
ing cows and learning to
drive a tractor.
Just to go over to their
homes in the evening, to talk
with them about everyday or
political matters and to spend
time with them, as part of
their family, is an integral
part of the experience of
learning their way of life.

Detroiters Heed Plea for Books
to Soviet Jews in Project Sefer

The Detroit Action Com-
mittee for Soviet Jewry is
urging all who are interested
in the cause of Soviet Jews
to participate in its new
"Project Sefer."
Contributions will allow for
the shipment of nonreligious
Hebrew books to Jews study-
ing in ulpanim throughout
the Soviet Union.
These ulpanim, or study
groups, make great efforts to
teach the Hebrew language
and history of the ,Jewish
people, but because they are
isolated from the sources of
Jewish education, they are
unable to • acquire proper
learning materials.
