A Kosher
Recipe
from the
Kosher Oil
For generations, families have been
relying on Planters Oil for all their
Kosher cooking. All the year through.
Because Planters 100% pure peanut
oil brings out the natural flavor of
foods cooked in it. So whether it's
latkes, tzimmes, matzoh brie, or plain
ole fried chicken, cook it with Kosher
and Parve Planters Oil. It'll taste
the way it was meant to.
APPLE RAISIN KREPLACH
Makes 24 kreplach
11/2 cups finely chopped pared apples
1/2 cup chopped dark seedless raisins
1/2 cup sugar • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 /4 cups unsifted flour (about)
. teaspoon salt • 3 eggs
2 teaspoons cold water
Boiling water • Planters Peanut Oil
Confectioners' sugar
Combine chopped apples, chopped raisins, sugar
and cinnamon in bowl. Mix well; set aside.
Sift flour and salt in large mixing bowl. Make a
well in the center and in it place eggs and
cold water. Mix into a dough. Turn out onto
lightly floured board; knead until smooth and
elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes. Knead in
additional flour if necessary. Divide dough in
half. Roll each half into a 9 x 12-inch rectangle.
Between rolling strokes, carefully stretch
dough with hands from the center outward.
Cut into 3-inch squares. Fill each square with
1 tablespoon apple mixture. 'Moisten 2
adjacent edges with water; fold unmoistened
edges over to form triangles. Seal edges
tightly using tines of fork.
Fry in deep hot Planters Peanut Oil (375°F.)
until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Drain
on paper towels. Sprinkle with confectioners'
sugar. Serve warm.

Beth. Jacob
Girls Rally
to the Colors
By MIRIAM PENFIL
Last Thursday was a very
normal day for all the Beth
Jacob students, or at least
they thought it was until the
senior class brought mass
confusion upon a very un-
suspecting school.
The 12th grade class ar-
ranged to have a fake en-
gagement of one of their
classmates, Marmal Klein-
man. Immediately upon hear-
ing the shouts of the excited
seniors, the entire school
came out into the hall to
join in the singing and
dancing for our kalla (bride).
In the midst of all the con-
fusion, Lorraine Reisman
and Dena Carmen marched
down the hall carrying a
sign reading "Color War Is
Here" 111 Everyone from
grades 7 through 12 rushed
excitedly into the shul amidst
much shouting and scream-
ing.
As soon as we were all
settled in the shul, Rabbi
Goldstein announced the cap-
tains, co-captains and the
team names and members.
They were as follows: Dena
Carmen and Suse Katz for
team Spain (red) and Lor-
raine Reisman and Vicky
Weinman for France (blue),
the opposing team.
T h e enthusiastic team
members put forth all their
efforts and numerous talents
in creating original marching
songs, posters, formation,
theme songs, banners and
cheers, all of which por-
trayed the Jews existence in
those countries.
They stayed up well into
the small hours of the morn-
ing working hard at their
jobs, each person adding as
much as she could to help
out the team in any way
possible.
T h e performances a n d
songs were not the only
things taken into considera-
tion; good behavior of all
girls in all classes, as well
as prompt attendance were
equally important.
The competition between
the two teams was extremely
close, and team Spain won
by a small margin.
All that is left of Color
War is many fond memories
which we are compiling into
team newspapers for the
school.

Umbrella Leadership Group
Orthodox Youth Form National
NEW YORK — Prominent
Orthodox Jewish student or-
ganizations were united un-
der one umbrella organiza-
tion here called SCOOP, Stu-
dent Committee of Orthodox
Organization Presidents.
The organization, born as
a result of the failure of a
previous umbrella organiza-
tion, will succeed "by main-
taining an atmosphere of in-
formality and decision mak-
ing," according to Aaron
Reichel, president of Yavneh,
National Religious Student
Association.
Each of the participating
organizations will call for
and chair meetings on a ro-
tating basis, leaving no need
for a permanent chairman.
One of the first resolutions
of the new organization seeks
support in the Orthodox com-
munity for Sen. Henry
"Scoop" Jackson for his in-
terest in the oppressed Jews
in the Soviet Union.
Among the participanting
groups are Yavneh, Young
Israel Collegiates, members
of the Hineni and hasidic
movements, Dirshu, Noam,
National Conference of Syna-
gogue Youth, Bnei Akiva,
and the student councils of
Yeshiva, Stern and Touro
colleges.
Matt Hoffman of the Uni-
versity of Michigan is the
Midwest representative to
Yavneh.
