will play works by Bach,
Beethoven, Chausson, Bloch,
Wieniawski and Shedrin. Leo
Barkin will be accompanist.
Admission is free, but
tickets must be secured
through the synagogue of-
fices (357-5544).
Treger, 25, was born in
Moldavia, Russia, and began
his musical studies at age 6
in the local academy. At 14,
he was entered in a regional
competition and won a
scholarship to stud yunder
the master Michael Unter-
berg.
The following year, just
past his 15th birthday, his
tutor entered him in the na-
tional Riga competition and
upon being awarded the first
prize, he was recommended
to the Moscow Conservatory
to pursue a serious career.
He came to the immediate
attention of the renowned
David Oistrakh and was ac-
cepted into the artist class
under his tutelage. After six
years, he was graduated
with honors and awarded the
prestigious Artist Diploma in
recognition of his accom-
plishments.
Until his graduation in
1972, Treger traveled evten-
sively throughout the USSR
performing with every major
orchestra and in numerous
ALEXANDER TREGER I solo recitals.

Among other restrictions,
Treger was not permitted to
take his instrument with
him, and friends are in the
process of securing a violin
for his debut.
