Horwitz Retires From JOG Staff

Horwitz, on his 65th birthday,
retired as director-general of
overseas operations of the
Joint Distribution Committee,
Edward Ginsberg, JDC chair-
man announced.

sultant to JDC in areas

made at the 59th annual
meeting of the JDC in New
York, Dec. 6. The 500 Jewish
community leaders accorded
Mr. Horwitz a standing ova-
tion in recognition of his long
years of service to Jewish
organizations in the United
States and abroad.
Horwitz, who became di-
rector-general of the JDC in
1967, served in a number of
welfare and refugee assist.

JDC in Tunisia where he or-
ganized and supervised a
wide range of health, wel-
fare and educational pro-
grams for a Jewish commu-
nity of about 100,000. In 1953
he was assigned to the Paris
office as director of the de-
partment of emigration.

He was appointed director
of the European and North
African affairs office of
United Hias Service and re-
joined the JDC staff in 1957
as director for JDC/Malben

In 1963 Horwitz joined the
