Engineers Plan
to meet in Israel

The Congress of Engineers
and Architects will take
place in Tel Aviv as sched-
uled from Dec. 17 to 24.
The holding of the con-
gress, as planned, is viewed
as a demonstration of soli-
darity with Israel, and it
was stressed that it is more
important than ever for large
numbers of engineers, archi-
tects, town planners and sci-
entists to attend the congress.
Interested persons should
contact immediately the El
Al office, 557-5737 for infor-
mation.

brit mila here.
In 1961, when a son was
born to a Jewish family in a
small Soviet village, there
was no mohel so the father
traveled thousands of miles
to find someone willing to
risk performing the rite.
He found a mohel who
was prepared to perform the
operation — a legal offense

JDC Day Care
Handbook Goes
to Himalayas

NEW YORK — Although it
does not have the Hebrew
songs and instruction on how
to observe the Jewish holi-
days, the translation of the
JDC Handbook for Teachers
in Day Care Centers into the
language of Nepal, a small
country high in the Hima-
layan mountains, has just
about everything else.
The newest version, pub-
lished this year, is the fourth
language in which the Joint
Distribution Committee hand-
book has appeared.
The handbook was written
by Evelyn Peters, chief JDC
consultant on day care, in
1967 as a textbook and ready
reference for local kinder-
garten teachers in Morocco,
Tunisia and Iran.
Since few, if any, of the
trainees in Iran were able to
read English, the JDC trans-
lated the handbook into
Farsi, the Persian language.
Later, the book was trans-
lated into French to accom-
modate French - speaking
teacher-trainees in Tunisia
and Morocco. The Nepalese
version was translated under
the supervision of Katya
Roberts, UNICEF consultant
in Nepal.
Shortly after the first edi-
tion of the manual appeared
(it is now in its third print-
ing) the U.S. Peace Corps
reprinted an edition of 300
copies for its staff members
in underdeveloped countries.
UNICEF also sent a number
copies to various coun-
_ :es.
