Cutoff of Ties With Israel Means Serious Loss of Aid to Ethiopia.

LONDON (JTA)—Ethiopia
will suffer severely from the
loss of Israeli technical and
military advisers since it
broke diplomatic relations
with Israel last month, and
the Ethiopian government is
well aware of this.
A senior Israeli adviser
who was expelled from Addis
Ababa told the Jewish Tele-
graphic Agency there were
90 Israeli families in Ethi-
opia, some 500 persons, a
relative small number. But
Israeli technicians and ad-
visers held key positions in

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Is- I
raelis woke up Monday to be
told they will pay higher
prices for many products.
The ministerial economic
committee decided to in-
crease taxes on a long list of
products. The ministerial
economic committee decided
to increase taxes on a long
list of ,products and to cut

down subsidies for others as
an additional source of in-
come to cover war expenses.
The government's move
will cause an average price
increase of three per cent.
The government will gain IL
1,000,000,000 ($250,000,000) out
of the new price regulations.
Altogether the government
will have absorbed IL 4,000,-
000,000 for the next year;
1,000,000,000 will be absorbed
by the compulsory loan at
the rate of 7 per cent of the
income; 1,000,000,000 from
the voluntary loan which now
includes almost every large
organization; IL 750,000,009

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Is-
rael is urgently appealing to
synagogues in the U.S. and
Canada for Torah scrolls and
sets of tefilin, mainly for
army use.
Rabbi Eliahu Marcus of
the ministry for religious
in the U. S. on a four-week
of major American
tour
communities, hopes to collect
1,000 scrolls and 5,000 sets
of tefilin. As he receives
them, he will dispatch them
by El Al to Israel,
Many of the scrolls will be
used for front-line syna-
gogues at new positions and
to replace damaged or cap-
tured army scrolls. Some of
them will be placed in civil-
ian synagogues in memory
of individual soldiers or
groups of soldiers who died
in the war.
The tefilin will all go to
combat troops. The army
chaplains report that many
soldiers who previously did
not use tefilin are now re-
questing them.
Rabbi Marcus will visit
Miami, Washington, Balti-
more, Chicago and Montreal.

and that the Israelis may not
want to return even after a
Middle East settlement. But
apparently he had no choice
and broke with Israel under
severe pressure from the
Arabs.
The pressure included a

threat to cut off oil and to
fan insurrection in Somali-
land and Eritrea.

Spiritual force is stronger
than material force; thoughts
rule the world.
