BONN (JTA) — The Social
Democratic government in
Hesse, West Germany, has
donated DM 500,000 to the
Israeli counterpart of t h e
Red Cross. The donation was
made on the initiative of
SPD Premier Albert Osswald
and received full Cabinet ap-
proval.
Osswald said in a telegram
to I s r a el's Ambassador
Eliashiv Ben Horin that the
money was to be used to
help "all people in distress,
regardless of race and reli-
gion."

to the U.S. "The bullet shot
by Faisal had no gunpowder.
The truth is, Faisal needs
the money."

Unique to this war, unlike
1967, was the fact that "This
week, 2,000 Russian Jews ar-
rived in Israel, and 152 today
passed through Vienna," he
said.
The delegate assembly was

der Council's new executive
director, Alvin Kushner, who
took office Oct. 1. Harold
Dubin was appointed assist-
ant director.
Another change in Council
leadership occurred with the
departure of vice president
Rabbi Hayim Donin. He is
replaced by John Shepherd,
former treasurer. Irving Tu-
kel is the new treasurer.
Council President Hubert
Sidlow presided.
Nathan Feldman, president
of the host temple, announced
that Emanu-El's membership
has launched a project, SAG
(Save a Gallon), by which
every family will make a
commitment to save one gal-
lon of gas per week. Their
effort, which was suggested
as a communitywide — and
countrywide — project by
Feldman, is designed to re-
duce the consumption of gas
in the U.S. and concurrently
reduce the dependence on the
Mideast for oil.
He advised that everyone
double up on trips to school
and restaurants, and not to
idle car motors more than
one or two minutes. Litera-
ture on the program is being
printed by Simons-Michelson
Advertising, which donated
