In Health Aid Bill

JERUSALEM (JTA) —The
new health insurance law
which the government sent
to the Knesset this week in-
cludes a provision stipulating
kosher food in hospitals ca-
tering to Jewish patients.
Justice Minister Yaacov
Shimson Shapiro presented
the draft clause at a Cabinet
meeting and in so doing
averted a threatened coali-
tion crisis with the National
Religious ,Party.
The NRP had demanded
that the new law provide for
kosher food, and the party
refused to accept labor min-

food was served anyway in
all hospitals under a tacit

Samuel Fisher, a distinguish-
ed civic leader and business
executive was elected with-
out opposition to be the 29th
president of the Board of
Deputies of British Jews.
Fisher succeeds Michael
Fidler, a 'Member of Parlia-
ment.
In his acceptance speech,
the new president said "I see
it as my main purpose to im-
prove the quality of Jewish
life." Sir Samuel had pre-
viously served as vice-presi-
dent of the Board.
