ONLY RESTAURANT in
the area open Christmas Day
was Sol's Delicatessen in Oak
Park . . which went at a
rapid paCe from 6:45, until
closing at 3:30 p.m., the lat-
ter because of no night em-
ployes . . . Shortage of help
didn't help matters, too
much .. , good thing Sol has
a fine family he can depend
upon . . . Only two regular
waitresses showed up (four
called same morning that
they couldn't make it in) so
wife Ruth and daughter
Nancy filled in at stations
. . . Son David joined Sol
and Herman Glicken behind
the counter . and father-
in-law Nathan Metz worked
the cash register, while
Esther Lieberman did her
usual pleasant job seating
the many people in line .. .
For a jammed-up spot, Sol's
worked most efficiently with
very little waiting and good,
courteous service.
RIGHT-HAND MANAGER
of Danny Bourdas at Danny's
Gin Mill, Kaye Kafcas, has
been around town a long
time . . . Had his own spot
from 1944 to 1963 on Wood-
ward, called Kafcas Bar ...
then to Danny's place down-
town until it burned . . . to
La Mediterranee at Hotel
Pontchartrain . . . and back
with Danny at the Gin Mill
in Farmington • . • How do
you address royalty four
times removed, by the way?
. That's what Kaye is .
fourth cousin to King Kon-
stantine (1917) of Greece.
QUITE A TRANSITION at
Angel's Hour Glass on W.
McNichols . . . and a most
popular one with Lenny
Schick supplying the listen.
Ing and very danceables
playing songs that folks know
from today and way back
when . . . In fact, Lennie
and his quartet have yet to
turn down a request ... no

"THE SEAWAY INN on ('
Ouellette and Park in Wind-
sor is bursting with two
rooms full of excitement. In —I
the Garrison Club, there is
entertainment and dancing cr.
nightly, and currently the 4
Tom Jones of Canada, Rom-
brandt and his group, enter-
taM six nights a week with tw.
their selection of vibrant
songs. Downstairs in the 3
Boots and Saddle Room,
country and western music
sets the theme, with Jimmy
Lees and the Lamplighters.
The Seaway Inn is located
three blocks from the tun-
nel exit and is the first big
building north of the tunnel.
"RECENTLY VISITED the
Chicago Road House at
21400 Michigan, in Dear-
born, to celebrate a birthday.
If you haven't heard, Jack
Vahan, super bossman, of-
fers a two-for-one birthday
special. This is how it works
—If your birthday falls in a
given week, they will help
celebrate it with you on a
Monday or Tuesday of that
week. Two dinners for the
price of one.
"FOR THE PAST 10 years,
the Tom Hong family of the
Oriental City Restaurant at
Greenfield near 10 Mile Rd.,
has strived to serve the fin-
est Cantonese food and
claims its Almond Boneless
Chicken is tops on the menu.
Open till 10:30 weeknights,
till 1 a.m. on Saturdays and
on Sundays to 10 p.m.
"NEWCOMERS TO The
Little Cafe, 12601 Gratiot,
learn what connoisseurs
have long known. The Little
Cafe is the place to go for
authentic German cuisine.
Famous for its Sauerbraten
and Rolladen, they also have
a way with Hassenpfeffer

out repeating themselves.
LEIB ROSENBERG, ex•
bossman at so many eateries,
called to say "So long" . • .
With foldup of Steering
Wheel, Leib is off to home
in Copenhagen . . . Detroit
loses a real good man!
FROM GUEST COLUM-
NIST Richard Solak . . .
New owners at the London
Bridge at 23914 Ford Rd., at
Telegraph in Dearborn
Heights, formerly known as
the Cow Shed. Open just a
few weeks, B. J. Swiss and
Len Fortune have been run-
ning things smoothly since
... To kick things off, Bobby
Laurel was signed and cer-
tainly hasn't disappointed
the crowds with his warm,
rich song stylings. Just a
short 12-minute ride from
Telegraph and 10 Mile Rd.
"FOR THOSE OF YOU who
have called for directions to
Haab's Restaurant, 18 W.
Michigan in Ypsilanti. It's
Telegraph Rd., south to 1-94,
west to the Whitaker Rd.-
Eastern Michigan University
exit, turn right, which is
Huron Rd., continue north
to W. Michigan Ave. It's right
on top of the bill. Otherwise,
it's straight out Michigan
Ave. You can't miss it.

Southfield Rd., near W. Jef-
ferson in Ecorse.
"TUNA TOPIC-11 differ-
ent fishes can be called tuna
in the U.S. The five most
important, commercially, are
Bluefin, Big Eye, Skipjack,
Yellowfin and Albacore. The
most prized, Albacore, is the
only one named on the label.
The rest are packed simply
as tuna. How do they dif-
fer? Albacore is the only one
with white meat—all others
are darker. It is also mild in
aroma, delicate in taste and
possesses a strong flavor.
