Feisal's Former
Physician Gives
Israel Ambulance

JERUSALEM — Dr. Jacola
H. Gabbay, member of one
of Iraq's oldest Jewish fam-
ilies and a former royal phy-
sician to the court of King
Feisal,
presented a fully
equipped ambulance to Ma-
gen David Adorn, Israel's
Red Cross.
The ambulance was dedi-
cated in memory of Dr. Gab-
bay's father, whose frequent
visits to what was known
then as Palestine made him

an ardent champion of the
Herzlian dream of a Jewish
homeland.
"Despite his views," Dr.
Gabbay remembers, "my
father was Liked ■ nd re-
spected by both Arabs and
Jews. Once, during one of
his business trips to Damas-
cus, a group of Moslem mer-
chants gave a dinner in his
honor. Upon finding out that
Heskeyl Murad Gabbay was
an observant Jew, they saw
to it that only kosher food
was served—to everyone."

Road Accidents Up

JERUSALEM—There were
20 per cent more road acci-
dents involving death or in-
jury in October than in Sep-
tember. This comes from the
Central Bureau of Statistics.
The rise — from 1,164 to
1,395—went contrary to the
normal season trend.
Data compiled by the Is-
rael police shows that 1,951
persons were injured in the
October accidents, compared
with 1,770 in the previous
month.
Fatalities, however, de-
creased—from 61 in Septem-
ber to 55 last month.

510,000 reward published in
the papers that brought the
letter from Dr. Hermann,
who said his daughter was

dating Eichmann's I1-year-
old son.
Friedman, who directs the
Haifa Documentation Center
on Nazi Crimes, turned the
correspondence over to a
friend who relayed it to the
secret service. The latter
ultimately kidnaped Etch-
mann to Israel — aboard a
plane carrying Foreign Min-
ister Abba Eban, who was
unaware of what was occur-
ring.
The Israel government re-
fused to pay Dr. Hermann
the $10,000, contending the
offer had come from Fried-
man, not from the govern-
ment. Friedman admitted
this but said the government
didn't want to pay up because
it.would have been an admis-
sion the secret service had
greatly helped in Eichmann's
apprehension.
Dr. Hermann, in an angry
letter to Prime Minister
Golda Meir last year, de-
manded the reward. Fried-
man, whose reputation went
into decline after Eichmann's
capture, finally succeeded in
his appeals after 12 years.
The government asked him
not to publicize the reward
settlement, but Friedman re-
fused.
