The Best of Everything

- NOSTALGIC memories of
the early '405 took hold as
' we visited the new Peking
House on 11 Mile and Wash-
-. ington ni Royal Oak ... Mem-
ories of the old Atlantic Gar-
dens on Linwood and Cort-
land and the young teen-
. ager who helped his dad,
,....1 Chew Lim, by delivering or-
ders on his bike .. . orders
1 in boxes kept warm wrapped
4 in a table cloth .. . The
i
-..,, youngster who had come to
i America from China in 1938
1 and grew up in the Linwood
. ] area is today a fine Hunting-
ton Woods dentist . . . Dr.
Donald F. Lim . . . owner
of the Peking House . .. a
far cry from the Atlantic
i Gardens except for one fac-
; tor: excellent food . . . The
-c, traditional Chinese dishes
and combinations are still
t there ... but Peking House,
opened only since Sept. 2, is
already noted for its fine
drinks and different offer-

ings . . . The extensive and
clear menu includes many
delightfully prepared dishes,
some recognizable and many
seen for the first time, such
as Peking Duck, Ginger
Beef, Mermaid Supreme,
Seaweed Soup with egg and
even an Egg Foo Yong
Sandwich! . . . We had the
Peking Duck, which must be
ordered in advance, and can
readily attest to an excep-
tional new experience in fine
delectable dining . . . Cold
salad a la Peking had an
unusually good taste, with
its highly nutritional low-
calorie combination of fresh
cucumber, white agar-agar
and shredded chicken sau-
teed with soy sauce; sesame
seed oil and spices . . .
Peking House certainly can-
not be guilty of newness
"bugs" - . . the food and
service are excellent attri-
butes that come from long
successful experience . .
Atlantic Gardens and Lim's
on W. Seven Mile and Monica
are names familiar with
goodness and quality - .
And so the wheel of life
turns as today, 70-year-old
semi-retired father Chew
Lim assists as maitre d' for
Peking House manager How-
ard Lew . - and owner Dr.
Lim . . . the son who helped
him 30 years ago at the At-
lantic Gardens on Linwood.
