Arab Women Learn
a New Way of Life

JERUSALEM — Fatima is
an Arab woman living in
Nazareth. She has nine chil-
dren and has never had a
vacation in her life. This
year, she left her family to
spend eight days relaxing in
a rest home at Kfar Ha-
horesh. in Galilee.
Another woman, Afaf, had
come this summer from her
village in Jordan to visit a
cousin in the Arab village of
Araara, as part of Israel's
summer visitors scheme.
A highlight of her visit
came on the day Afaf, along
with her cousin and SO other
Arab women from her cou-
sin's village, spent a day in
Haifa, the guests of a group
of young Israeli women.
Fatima and Afaf are two
examples of the more than
50,000 Arab women living in
Israel who are being direct-
ly affected by the work of
the Arab women's depart-
ment of Pioneer Women-
Moetzet Hapoalot.
Forty-five women partici-
pated in this first camp ex-
perience in the Galilee, while
another 25 Druze women va-
cationed in a camp near the
village of Usfia, in the Car-
mel Hills above Haifa. There
is, already, a waiting list of
applicants for next summer's
program.
Afaf's visit to Haifa came
out of an exchange of visits
between Arab women living
in Israel and their Jewish
counterparts.
Much of the work with fie
Arab women in Israel is con-
ducted through Pioneer Wo-
men-Moetzet Hapoalot's nz.t-
work of Arab women's clubs.
These 31 groups now function
throughout the country.

Renaissance of Israel
The renaissance of Israel
did not and does not consist
merely of the establishment
of state-national instruments
for the Hebrew nation; but
it will express its fullest and
highest form in the revela-
tion of its eternal spirit and
the fulfillment of its historic
mission in redeeming man-
kind. —David Ben-Gurion in
"The Spiritual and Pioneer-
ing Mission. of Israel."
