Designers of
JNF Pilgrimage to Coincide
With Israel's 25th Anniversary
A special metropolitan De-
troit pilgrimage and study
mission to Israel, coinciding
with Israel's 25th anniver-
sary of statehood, has been
announced by David P. Zack,
president of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund Council.
Participants will be in Is-
rael on Independence Day,
May 7. Set to depart Detroit
on April 20, the mission will
tour Israel for two weeks,
with a three-day stopover in
London.
JNF was able to arrange
reservations of 20 rooms in
deluxe accommodations, de-
spite the great influx of tour-
ists, said Zack.
Participants in this tour
will see sights that the av
erage tourist does not al
ways see, including frontier
settlements. Several specia
projects also will be dedi
rated, including forests, gar

Trees Planted
as Memorial to
Morris Cooper
The late Morris D. Cooper,
sexton of Cong. Beth Achim,
is to be memorialized wi - h a
garden
of trees planted
through the Jewish National
Fund in Israel.
David Silver. past president
of Beth Achim and the JNF
Council, and a leader of the
Labor-Zionist movement, said
that a Barden of 700 trees
was being planted in the
United Synagogue of Amer-
ica Forest in Israel.
According to Silver, funds
for this project came from
Rev. Cooper's friends at the
synagogue, his family and
outside friends and acquain-
tances.
Rev. Cooper, sexton of
Cong. Beth Achim for 12
years until his death in July,
was sexton of Downtown
Synagogue for eight years
prior to his post with Beth
Achim. He donated the sex-
ton's office in the Beth Achim
building.

JERUSALEM—Israel will
begin exporting citrus fruit
to Japan in January, the
managing director of the Cit-
rus Marketing Board, Mor-
dechai Makleff, has an-
nounced.
Ten special packing houses
will be set up to handle the
premium-quality fruit ear-
marked for the Far East.
Under present forecasts,
Israel will ship 600,000 con-
tainers of grapefruit and 150,-
000 of oranges to Japan this
year.

Koor Reorganizes
Reform Jewish Studies College
Offers 21 Courses to Ciimmunity
Twenty-one courses of
study will be available to the
entire community when the
College of Jewish Studies
opens its school year Oct. 4
and 5, it was announced by
Cantor Arthur Asher, dean.
The college, which is spon-
sored by the Metropolitan
Detroit Federation of Reform
Synagogues, meets each
Wednesday evening and
Thursday afternoon at Tem-
ple Emanu-El.
The courses, taught by the
rabbis, cantors and educators
of the sponsoring congrega-
tions, include Hebrew (on
three levels), Yiddish, Bible,
Biblical Themes in the Plays
of Shakespeare, Ancient Jew-
