Bike-A-Thon Sparks
'72 March of Dimes

At A Very Special Store

For Pre-Teens

The tremendous fad in bicycling
has ignited the spark and enthu-
siasm for the March of Dimes
newest community-wide event in
their efforts to continue the fight
- “min-it birth defects_
Gordie Howe, campaign chair-
man for the Metropolitan Chap-
ter of the March of Dimes cover-
ing Wayne and Macomb counties,
has announced that Sept. 30 will
mark the first annual March of
Dimes Bike-a-Thon.
The Bike-A-Thon, which will
start at Metropolitan Beach be-
tween 8 and 9 a.m. Sept. 30,
is modeled after the very success-
ful Walk-A-Thon which was held
last May, with nearly 15,000 walk-
ers raising over $215,000 to aid
the March of Dimes in the fight
against birth defects.
Maxwell Gurman, executive di-
rector of the Metropolitan Chap-
ter March of Dimes, says "this
could be the biggest Bike-A-Thon
in the country if we generate the
same enthusiasm as we did for
the Walk-A-Thon."
The 34-mile distance will con-
sist of nine trips around a six-
mile course, starting at Metropoli-
tan Beach and going around the
parking lot and out onto the Met
ropolitan Beach Parkway. The
route will continue along the Park-
way to L'Anse Creuse and back
to the beach.
