State Senator Daniel S. Cooper
of Oak Park won the Democratic
nomination for the U. S. House of
Representatives against six op-
ponents in the new lath Congres-
sional District. His opponent in the
November election will be the ul
tra-conservative Republican, the
former State Senator Robert J. Hu-
ber of Troy.
David P. Kerwin will oppose in-
cumbent Judge Andrew C. Wood
in the fall. Paul Silver was re-
elected as a Wayne County Com-
missioner in the 14th District.
In Detroit, voters first approved
the addition of seven judges to Re-
corders Court and then voted for
Judges to run in the general
election in November. Seven judges
will be elected. Heading the field
of 14 were Justin C. Ravitz, Susan
Borman and Arthur Tarnow.
Detroit voters also selected eight
candidates to run in November for
the four current Recorders Court
seats. Included among the eight
are incumbent Donald S. Leonard
and Martin S. Baum and Sheldon
Halpern.

Jewish War Veterans
to Convene in Houston
WASHINGTON, D.C.—More than
2,000 delegates of the Jewish War
Veterans are expected to meet in
Houston, Sunday through August
20 for its 77th annual national con-
' vention.
Among the group's chief interests
are the upgrading of hospital fa-
, cilities for servicemen, the lessen-
ing of discrimination against Jews
in the Soviet Union, the preserva-
tion of Israel, the strengthening of
NATO and the improvement of
housing for the elderly.
The convention will issue state-
ments on national policy and adopt
resolutions which will guide JWV
activities over the next year.
