Israelite Universelle and a Nobel
Peace Prize laureate, presided
over the centenary celebration of
the Normal School of the Alliance
Israelite Universelle in Paris.
The school, the oldest Jewish
school in France, was founded in
1872 and has trained qualified
teachers for the Alliance schools
in various countries of the Bal-
kans, Near and Middle East and
North Africa.
It is estimated that over 650.000
Jew ish children received their
general and religious education in
