Marvin Frenkel of Hendrie Rd.,
Huntington Woods, has aided an
English Jew in his legal battle to
force the publishers of the Oxford
Dictionaries to discontinue publish-
ing derogatory definitions of "jew."
In April, Marcus Shloimovitz. a
textile merchant near London, filed
suit in court against the Clarendon
Press of Oxford for defamation of
the Jewish race by its definition of
the word - jew."
Among the references to which
he objects are that a jew is an
"unscrupulous usurer," "a cheat,"
"a trader who drives hard bar-
gains and deals craftily" and "an
extortioner."
Shloimovitz, in a letter to Fren-
kel, said he entered into the litiga-;
tion "with a deep sense of loyalty
to our people and disgust with the
description of Jews in those great ;
English dictionaries." 1
Realizing Shloimovitz's meager
finances. Frenkel sent him $100 to
help defray court costs.
