The Detroit Action Committee on Soviet Jewry spent hours
assembling a booth (large photo) last weekend for the Ethnic Fes-
tival near Cobo Hall, at which featured participants represented
the captive nations. After closing the booth for Ake Sabbath, Action
Committee members learned Saturday afternoon that the booth had
been dismantled by vandals (see inset). Sid Lantz, a member of
the committee, said the booth had been met with enthusiastic
response, and no one could imagine who would have damaged it.
Dick Fanning, Mayor Gribbs' parks and recreation commissioner
in charge of the festival, said there were supposed to be private
guards on duty Friday night, when the vandalism is believed to
have taken place. The Action Committee reassembled the booth,
and it was business as usual that evening and the following day.
