Pompidou Talks w ith Gromyko; ME a Major Topic

Georges Pompidou and Soviet
Foreign Minister Andrei Gromy-
ko met here for nearly two hours
Tuesday in talks that ranged over
major world problems and in
which the Middle East conflict
figured prominently according to
diplomatic sourses. •
Gromyko. who arrived here Mon- •
day night for a three-day official '
visit, was accompained by Mikhajl
Sytenk, head of the Soviet Foreign
Ministry's Middle East depart-
ment. His presence was seen as
an indication that the Middle East

NEW YORK—Two Israeli mili-
tary leaders, Lt. Gen. David Elazar
and Lt. Gen. Chaim Bar-Lev, will
address the 75th national jubilee
convention of the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America this summer in
Israel.
Gen. Elazar will speak on Is-
rael's military situation, and Gen.
Bar-Lev will address a session on
economic trends in Israel.
More than 1,000 delegates are ex-
pected to attend the eight-day con-
vention, opening July 12 in
Jerusalem.
The Israel Philharmonic Orches-
tra will dedicate the July 16 pre-
mier of the Israel Festival to the
ZOA convention.

No details were released on
Gromyko's talks with Pompidou
and Foreign Minister Maurice
Schumann. Both sides stressed
however, that there was a "full
identity of views" on the Middle
East during their discussions.
Observers here said Crom).ko's

remain "Moscow's favorite part-
ners in Western Europe."
Meanwhile in Rabat, Dr. Kurt
Waldheim. the , United Nations
Secretary General, described the
mission of Gunnar V. Jarring, the
UN peace emissary, as having
reached ''a dead end." Dr. Jarring
was given the assignment by Reso-
lution 242 of the Security Council
