Fund June 7 at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek.
Dr. William Haber, world presi-
dent of ORT. former dean of the
University of Michigan Literary
College and professor of economics,
now adviser to the U-M adminis-
tration, will be honored at the
dinner. Proceeds will be used to
plant the William and Fanny
Haber Forest in Israel
Lord Janner,
distinguished
British Jewish leader, will he
the guest speaker. Dr. Robben
Fleming, U-M president, will
join in honoring Dr. Haber.
Mrs. Morris Adler. last year's
honoree, will he chairman of the

Congressman William S. Broom-
field this week announced his can-
didacy for re-election in the re-
districted area. He will be a can-
didate for the U.S. House of Rep-
resentatives from the 19th District
and on the Aug. 8 primary will op-
pose Congressman Jack McDonald.
The new district was created
when a federal court decision split
up Rep. Broomfield's old district.
During his entire career, Rep.
Broomfield has been a strong de-
fender of Israel, a participant in
efforts to ease the plight of Soviet
Jewry and a supporter of the Zion-
ist cause. He has appeared in ad-
stresses for the Zionist Organiza-
tion of Detroit and numerous syna-
gogue groups.

Leaders from Detroit and Mich-
igan will honor Wayne State Uni-
versity's new president, GEORGE
E. GULLEN JR., at a presidential
welcome dinner June 13 at the
Sheraton-Cadillac lintel. Among
the co-chairmen are ALAN
SCHWARTZ, chairman of the ex-
ecutive committee of the Cunning ,

Dr. Cohen will assume the of-
fice of president and president of
faculties upon the retirement of
Dr. Louis Finkelstein July 1
Jacob Ii. Schiff Professor of His-
tory at the Seminary. Dr_ Cohen
has been Seminary librarian and
more recently visiting professor
of Jewish literature. From 1963
to 1970, Dr. Cohen served full
time on the faculty of Columbia
University. most recently as pro-
fessor of history and director of
the Center of Israel and Jewish
Studies.
Dr. Cohen holds the degrees of
bachelor and master of Hebrew
literature from the Seminary,
which ordained him as rabbi in
1948. He received his doctor-
ate in Semitic languages from
Columbia in 1958.
