`Minor Obstacles' Stopping Vatican
From Recognizing Israel, Prelate Says Temple Israel Funds Aid Future Rabbi
BUENOS AIRES (ITA) — A
visiting French cardinal told lead-
ers of Argentine Jewry that there
are no basic objections to the rec-
ognition of Israel by the Vatican,
only accidental obstacles arising
from the Middle East situation and
the situation of Christian communi-
ties in the Arab states.
Jean Cardinal Deanielou of
France, adviser to Pope Paul VI,
made those remarks during a visit
to the DATA, the central represen-
tative body of Argentine Jewry.
Cardinal Deanielou is the high-
est ranking dignitary of the Roman
Catholic Church to visit the DATA
He was received by its president,
Dr. Sion Cohen Imach; and Dr. Da-
vid Kahana, chief rabbi of Ar-
gentina.
The Cardinal said that despite
his crowded schedule he did not
want to leave Argentina without
paying his respects to the Jewish
community.
