SANTIAGO, Chile (JTA) — Is-

with the Suez Canal removed from
the agenda of the United Nations
Conference on Trade and Develop-

not stricken from the agenda as
demanded by the Arab delegates.
The item was titled "The Eco-

Right Man, Wrong Year

A sharp-eyed reader notes that
the Purely Commentary reference
to Adolphe Cremieux erroneously
stated that he co-founded the
Mikve Israel Agriculture Farm in
1970. The year actually was 1870.
Cremieux exposed the ritual mur-
der libel (Damascus Affair ) in
1840, not 1940 as it was erroneously
printed.

TEL AVIV (JTAI — Police are
investigating threatening letters
received recently by Chief Rabbi
Shlomo Goren. The letters warned
that he would "meet a most hor-
rible death" and said that a recent
fire at his home was - just a

ical implications and that its dis-
cussion would introduce sterile
political disputes and divert atten-
tion from the main points on the
agenda. The Libyan delegate, A.
El-Atrash. claimed that the situa-
tion at the canal and the con-
tinued occupation of Arab terri-
tories east of it caused the total
disruption of economic develop-
ment in that area and threatened
not only Egypt but all developing
countries with a cruel form of
economic strangulation.
The Egyptian delegate insisted
that the subject of the agenda
item was directly connected with
trade and development and the
Algerian delegate asked that Is-
rael's objections be deleted from
the record. Clodomiro Almeyda.
Chilean minister of foreign affairs
who was elected president of
UNCTAD, ruled that the item be
retained since no formal motion
had been made to the contrary.
But he said all interventions on
the matter would be included in
the records.
Earlier the Afghanistan' dele-
gate, Vice Minister of Foreign Af-
fairs Ravan Farhadi, claimed that
it was essential to deprive Israel
of control of the Suez Canal.
Heads of all delegations, includ-
ing Rafael. attended a reception
giN en by President Salvador Al-
lende.
UN Secretary General Kurt
Waldheim reiterated here Monday
that the ]fiddle East conflict is
1 he most important political prob-
lem awaiting solution by the UN.
Addressing a press conference at
the UNCTAD, Waldheim described
the Mid East situation as a dan-
ger to world peace. Ile expressed
hope that UN mediator Dr. Gunnar
V. Jarring will soon be able to
resume his peace mission.

Rabbi Goren said he did not
know who was behind the letters
or why they. were sent.

Uganda's move was blamed
primarily on the influence of Libya.

The deterioration of Ugaoria
