will perform modern versions of English, Hebrew and Yiddish tunes
as part of the Israel Independence Week April 22 at the Jewish Cen-

The Voices Four." an ensemble
of young singers and musicians,
will perform B p m. April 22 as
part of the Israel Independence
Week program at the Jewish Cen-
ter. Ushering in the evening will
he a short ceremony, including flag
bearers and choral voices.

The Voices Four include in their
repertoire old and new Israeli fa-
vorites put to the rhythms of rock
music. Performing together through
college, camps and youth groups,
Mary Rosen of Detroit and Ron
Isaacs of Toronto founded the
present Voices Four. Both have
earned BA and BHL through a
combined program sponsored by
Columbia University and the Jew-
ish Theological Seminary of Amer
ica.- Rosen has since gone on to
study for his MBA and JD degree.

seminary's g r a d u 1 t e rabbinical
school.
Marty Sherman of the Bronx'
graduated from New York's High
School of Music and Art, and after
college was acclaimed as sing-
er and lead guitarist in many New
York supper and night clubs.

"In Search of Second Avenue,"
a retrospect on the Yiddish Thea-
ter and the making of a television
series about it, will be the final
Front Row Center program of
Center Theater, 8:30 p.m. Wednes-
day at the Jewish Center.
Evelyn Orbach, director of broad-
casting for the Jewish Community
Council. spent several weeks in
New York film-

interviews
with veterans of
the Yiddish thea-
ter to prepare a
major forthcom-
ing Council tele-
vision series on
the Yiddish thea-
ter. She was ac-
companied by
her cameraman,
Orbach
Ethel Le vine,
past president of Center Theater.
Their adventures "In Search of
Second Avenue" will be told as
a film-lecture, not only describing
the making of a television series
but recalling a bygone era when
Yiddish theater flourished with its
warm, sentimental comedies and
tragic melodramas.
Mrs. Orbach, winner of the Na-
tional Gabriel Broadcasting Award,
has directed for Center Theater
and for the Detroit Opera Theater.
She is a graduate of the School
of Performing Arts and studied
with such theatrical notables as
Sidney Lumet and Morris Carnov-
sky.
The nominal fee will cover re-
