Decem er Deadline for JNF Contest

All entries in the Jewish Na-
tional -Funds national essay- con-
test, fcir young people of age 15-
20, must_be submitted by Dec. It.
Ten :awards are being offered,
including a grand prize trip to
Israel, in the contest which honors
the 70th anniversary of the JNF.
Theme of the contest is "To
Reclaim the Land s— to Rehabili-
tate a People", which concerns
the,work being done in Israel with
donations to the JNF.
The entries must be typewrit-
ten in English, Hebrew, or Yid-
dish, with a maximum of 1,000
words. '
Among the judges are Prof.
Abraham I. Katsh, president of
Philadelphia's Dropsie College;

for the four student council offices
and delivered speeches before the
entire -student body.' Elections were
held by secret ballots in the class-
rooms.

workshops, a kickoff dance and
participation in the annual BBYO
"Trick or Treat" drive for the
benefit of UNICEF were included
in the weekend.
Under the leadership of council
officers and AZA and BBG alumni,
the workshops, spirit sessions and
leadership training ideas were pre-
sented to representatives of all
chapters in Michigan Region BBYO.
The Saturday evening dance
featured a poster contest, theme of
Which was "Children in the World
Without!" It provides - a backdrop
for the Sunday UNICEF campaign.
Proceeds will be turned over to the
UNICEF Committee of Detroit at
the next meeting of local AZA and
BBG councils.
The weekend brought to a cul
mination the initial registration of
BBYO members. Interested boys
and girls age 14-18 may call BBYO,

Wenokurs of New Hampshire Ave.,
Southfield, was told by a young
friend about the work of the asso-
ciation, which is seeking to estab-
lish a residential home for Jewish
retardates. She held a carnival
on her front lawn and raised $3.47
in pennies from children on the
block.
Her grandfather, Manuel Feld-
stein, made it an even 55 and sent
it on to the association.
