The El Al 747'-flight- took us
directly from Kennedy _Airport to
Vienna for a visit with -150 Rus-

and conversation. We-cried with
them-over their Inunillation,- those
that they left behind. Their deda-
ration, :-young and old, was "We
want to b - e free to Jive as Jews."
This was the begisming of four
days of exhilaration. It ended with
a dinner'at the Knesset with Golds
Meir, whose 'very presence and
whose brief remarks touched the
depths of our beings as -Jews.
Of immigration-1mM the USSR
she said, "That IS when we all are
at our best. There is no place for
nonsense. Rescue of Jews is at the
soul of our being„ the reason for
our existence."
- To American Jews she reached
