Jo Mielziner, prominent stage
desigher, and Julius Rudel, direc-
tor of the New York City Opera
Company and music director of the
John F. Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts in Washington,
will be among the six recipients
of honorary degrees et the Oct. 5
dedication of the University of
Michigan's Power Center fir the
Performing Arts.
Following the '7:30 p.m. convoca-
tion, the premiere of the Profes-
sional Theater Program's new
musical; "The Grass Harp," will
be held.
Other degree recipients will be
actress Helen Hayes, theater critic
Walt& Kerr, actor James - -Earl
Jones and Nancy Hanks, chair-
man of the National Endowment
for the Arts.
Meilzhie.r, considered "dean of
American scenic artists," holds
three Tony awards and five Don-
aldson Awards for set design.
Rudd, who holds many awards as
a symphonic and operatic conduc-
tor, conducted the world premiere
of "Beatrix Cenci" at its opening
performance _in the Kennedy Cen-
ter Sept. 10.
