Ontario Piemier Refuses
to Aid Private Schools

TORONTO (JTA)—William Da-
vis, premier of Ontario, has an-
nounced that the government will
not give any direct aid to Jewish
and other sectarian schools.
Responding to a request by the
province's Association of Jewish
Day Schools for government aid
for the secular portion of their
teaching program, Davis stated:
"To accept such a philosophy (of
the direct and necessary link be-
tween religion and education) and
to foster it, the government would
be obliged to create an entire edu-
cational system which would be,
It 'the very least, a dual one . . ."
The Liberal and New Democrat
parties have pledged support to
Catholic schools.
