Responding to a request by the province's Association of Jewish Day Schools for government aid for the secular portion of their teaching program, Davis stated: "To accept such a philosophy (of the direct and necessary link be- tween religion and education) and to foster it, the government would be obliged to create an entire edu- cational system which would be, It 'the very least, a dual one . . ." The Liberal and New Democrat parties have pledged support to Catholic schools.
