Jan Bart, well-known American
Jewish singer-entertainer, who had
appeared here many times for
Israel Bonds, died in New York
Aug. 13. He was 51.
During his 30-year career, Mr.
Bart had performed at Jewish
functions, night clubs and resorts
throughout the world, often with
his singer wife Lillian.
Born in Poland, Mr. Bart came
to the U. S. in 1930. He had had
two radio programs in New York,
his current one called the "Amer-
ican Jewish Caravan of Stars."
The lyric tenor's Yiddish version
of "Fiddler on the Roof" has been
called the all-time most popular
Yiddish recording in this country.
Mr. Bart also composed pop-
ular songs and was author of a
best-selling diet book, "I Lost a
Thousand Pounds."
Affiliated with many Jewish or-
ganizations, Mr. Bart was recipient
of the American-Israel Friendship
Award for his efforts on behalf of
Israel.
Tribute Paid Memory
of Anne Lichtenfeld
Tribute was paid recently to the
memory of Mrs. Anne Lichtenfeld
of Surbiton, England, by the Rev.
Edward Jackson, minister of the
Kingston, Surbiton and the dis ,
trict's synagogue. The area is a
suburb of London.
Mrs. Lichtenfeld visited Detroit
occasionally with her husband,
Charles Lichtenfeld, brother of
Walter Field.
Charles Lichtenfeld was the
founder and for 44 years president
of the Kingston-Surbiton syna-
gogue.
Mrs. Lichtenfeld, who was 69 at
her recent death, was the founder
and president of the Synagogue
Ladies Guild, and was active in
many charities.
