Bronze 'Scroll of . Fire' Monument Memorializes
War Victims in Bnai Brith Israel Martyrs Forest
KESALON, Israel — An eight-
and-a-half meter high bronze monu-
ment depicting side-by-side the
European Holocaust and the re-
surgence of the Jewish people was
placed on its permanent site in
the Martyrs' Forest of the Jewish
National Fund.
The monument, entitled the
"Scroll of Fire," is the work of
sculptor Nathan Rappaport, who
also created the Warsaw ohet
to
Memorial. The "Scroll of Fire"
was sponsored by Bnai Brith,
which has adopted the Martyrs'
Forest as its project and has, out
his pupils, continuing with the
revolt of the Ghetto fighters, the
destruction of the Ghetto, the
death camps and the refugees of
the war.
The second part starts with the
menora (candelabra) carried off
to Rome by Titus and now returned
to Jerusalem. It goes on to the
home-coming to Zion of the sur-
vivors of the Holocaust, Israel's
War of Independence, the Six Day
War victory and the Western Wall
again in Jewish possession. The
"Scroll of Fire" will be officially
dedicated next February.
of its existing 3,300,000 trees, al-
ready planted over 1,000,000 in
memory of the Six Million.
The forest is located in the Ju-
dean Hills near the village of
Kesalon. To further develop the
forest area, the Jewish National
Fund is paving a 51,666-square
foot patio around the sculpture and
has cut an access road to the spot.
Situated on a 1,965 foot high
hilltop, the 16-ton statue comprises
a huge scroll divided into two
parts. The first shows the Holo-
caust, beginning with Dr. Janusz
Korczak walking to his death with
