Hope Happening
Set for Aug.26-29

"Let's Get Together — Down-
town" is the theme of Detroit Hope
Happening 2. It's a chance to get
together and turn on to Detroit
—the sounds, the excitement, the
enjoyment, the people that are
Detroit.
Detroit Hope Happening 2, the
exciting concept, is a people's fes-
tival—a chance for the citizens
of Detroit to use its urban spaces
for their mutual enjoyment.
Detroit's Common Council and
Mayor Roman S. Gribbs have
worked together to make available
the facilities of the Kern Block,
Kennedy Square, Woodward Ave.,
Campus Martius, Monroe and
Grand Circus Park for this festival
of games and entertainment to be
staged Aug. 26-29 by Focus: HOPE.
The Happening opens noon Aug.
26 and runs until 10 p.m. On Aug.
27 and 28 the hours will be noon to
11 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 29,
the hours will be noon to 10 p.m.
Detroit Hope Happening 2 will
open with ceremonies that will in-
clude city and suburban dignitaries
and the music of Bob Snyder Dix-
ieland Combo. It will close Sunday
evening with a special concert in-
volving many of Detroit's talented
entertainers.

Jewish Agencies Help
`Hard-to-Place' Children

MONTREAL (JTA)—The pass-
age of Quebec's Bill 9, which per-
mits "a child who is free of any
religion to be placed in any faith,"
has enabled the Baron de Hirsch
Institute and Jewish Children's
Welfare Bureau to find homes for
the "hard-to-place" racially mixed
child according to Your Commun-
ity Voice, the publication of
the Allied Jewish Community Seri-
, ice here.
Liberalized abortion laws and
widespread use of birth control
have drastically reduced the num-
ber of white infants available for
adoption. At the same time, social
conscience is growing among the
middle class. Quebec's adoption
law eases the way for those want-
ing to adopt and improves the
chances for thousands of "hard-
to-place" children. "By updating
our adoption policy," says Baron
de Hirsch executive director Solo-
mon Brownstein, "we are giving
Montreal Jews a chance to do
something that might turn out to
be the most significant and mean-
ingful thing they ever do."

Marguerite Zozenn Chajes, who
directs many of her musical ac-
tivities in Vienna, says that
Stolz, who reached his 90th year a
few months ago, remains active in
musical spheres and is an ardent
advocate of Israel's rights. She
said he has been honored in Israel
on several occasions.
"From 1938, when he escaped
the Nazi scourge, he has helped
many Jewish causes," Mrs. Chajes
said. She praised him for his devo-
tion to his heritage and for his
labors as a composer, orchestra
director and supporter of musical
projects.
