Berk Will Relate
Experiences in
Russia Sunday

"Soviet Jewry—Let My People
Go" will be discussed by Daniel
G. Berk as . Cong. Bnai Moshe.'s
Town Hall special lecturer 8:15
p.m. Sunday.
Berk,_who speaks Russian and
recently spent three weeks in the
Soviet Union, vis-
ited synagogues
from Moscow
and Leningrad in
the west to Sam-
arkand and Tash-
kent in Central
Asia. These vis-
its, along with
numerous con-
versations, have
given him first-
Berk hand knowledge
of the problems facing those de-
siring to live as Jews in the Soviet
Union. Berk will present slides
taken during these visits.
An attorney, - Berk is a former
assistant attorney general for the
state of Michigan and a former
legislative intern with the labor
committee of the State House of
Representatives. He received a
PhB degree in history from Wayne
State University; a JD from Wayne
State University's law school and
an MA in political science from
Michigan State University.
He is president of the South-
field Democratic Club, chairman
of the government subcommittee
of the Citizens Advisory Com-
mittee an Citizenship Develop-
ment for the Southfield Board
of Education and a member of
the beard of directors for the
Oak Park Symphony Society-

to Discuss Implications of Drug Use

Youth: Its Social
and Psychologi-
cal Implications."
Dr. Rabino-
vitch Is re-
search psychia-
trist at Haw- Dr. Rabinovitch
thorn Center, Northville, and for
15 years was director of that
pioneering treatment and re-
search facility in child psychi-
atry. He was previously chief of
children's psychiatric service of
the University of Michigan.
Dr. Rabinovitch has served as a
consultant to schools and social
agencies, and has written on a wide
range of topics, including drug
abuse.

Beth El to Break
Ground in April

Robert N. Canvasser, president
of Temple Beth El, announced on
behalf of the board of trustees that
ground-breaking ceremonies for
the new building on Telegraph and
14 Mile lids. will be held in April.
A special committee is being
formed to work out the details.
Canvasser said the clearing of
the site is under way.

Coffee and cake will follow the
lecture. Rabbi Jacob E. Segal will
be moderator.
Dr. Rabinovitch's lecture will be
the second in a 10-week study in-
stitute series open to the public.
The Feb. 9 speaker will be Dr.
Allen Pollack, _political scientist,
foLhtiii lie-aded`rstueViirlisfonir- to -
both Israel and Arab lands.
An hour study session, beginning
at 7:45, precedes the lectures.
Subjects include beginners' He-
brew, Jewish observances in home
and synagogue, highlights of the
Jewish liturgy and a look at the
Mishna.

Family Purity Sabbath
to Be Observed Saturday

This Saturday, the Sabbath of
Parshe Bo, has been designated
by the Council of Orthodox Rabbis
as "Taharath Hamishpaha (Family
Purity) Sabbath," recognizing the
importance of the commandment
and the forthcoming banquet of
Mikva Israel and the Women's
Orthodox League.
The dinner, to be held 6:30 p.m.
Feb. 7 at Cong. Shaarey Shomayim,
is chaired by Rabbi Israel Rock-
ove, assisted by Rabbi Sholom
Goldstein, Rabbi Joseph Hirsch,
Louis Penfil, Marvin Seligson,
Larry Singal and Yaakov Kreit-
man,
