Gan Israel Announces Year Round
Weekend Retreats at Kosher Facility

-

A year-round program of week-
end retreats will be offered at
Camp Gan Israel, the Linden,
Mich., facility operated by the
Cbabad Lubavitcher movement.
Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff, execu-
tive director of the camp, made
the announcement, adding that on
weekends when retreats are not
scheduled by Chabad, the camp
will be open for rental to groups
under various auspices.
- Kashrut is maintained at all
times at the camp, which is located
on Pine Lake, 50 miles from
Detroit, out 1-696.
The camp's central complex-
includes a new two-story male
in which paneled bed-
rooms are close to a large dining
ball and kitchen. Recreation fa-
cilities and a synagogue also
form part of the complex, which
is winterised and centrally heat-
ed. Outdoor sports include snow-
horsebaelCriding and
skating.
During the summer, Camp Gan
Israel operates two-month pro-
grams for 170 boys and 170 girls
and is entering its second decade.
From its summer activities, said
Rabbi Lazaroff, camp officials
"learned that the most successful
way to learn about Judaism was
to live and learn—to experience

Jewish life as a living, warm
reality rather than studying it as
a theoretical subject."
Sabbath weekend programs of
"live 'n learn" will be available
from September to June for girls'
and boys' groups from elementary
school age through college, as well
as adults. For information, group
directors may call the Camp Gan
Israel office, 399-9222.

RCA Head Wants World
Parley Called to Take Up
`Anti-Zionism' Issue

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (JTA) —
Rabbi Bernard L. Berzon, leader
of Cong. Ahavah Israel in Brook-
lyn- and president of the Rabbini-
cal Council of Amerier, called for
a conference of world Jewish lead-
ers to combat "ape of the greatest
dangers in the history of the Jew-
ish people"—anti-Semitism-:cloaked
behind the rhetoric of anti-Zionism
and anti-Israelism.
Addressing the - midwinter -eon--
&mace of the assembly', the coun-
try's largest Orthodox rabbinical
group, Rabbi Herb= charged that
world Jewry was underestimating
the threat of this new form of
anti-Semitism, which he attributed
to the Soviet Union and "the so-
called New Left"
While their approach is different
from the "classic anti-Semitism"
practiced by reactionary and an-
tionalistic forces, he noted, the
"Jew-hater and Jew-baiter of old"
is still at its source.
