Theological: Seminary. Acquires 'Lost' Book
of Verse by Isaac Ibn,Ezra Dating to 1100s
NEW YORK—The Jewish Theol-
ogical Seminary of America has
acquired a 12th Century book of
Hebrew verse by Isaac Ibn Ezra,
son of Abraham Ibn Ezra, famous
Jewish , scholar and poet.
The book, thought by scholars to
be hopelessly lost, was sold to the
seminary by Edward Silvers of
New York. Silvers obtained the
book from his uncle, Ezra Silvein,
who had kept the book private.
The manuscript is composed of
41 leaves and was written in Gezire
Ibn Umar (now Cizre, Turkey) in
1143. It is in remarkably good con-
dition and almost every page is
legible.
