TAKE THE FAMILY
OUT TO DINNER

By DR. .1Aele i - AdoiAN

Guest Columnist
There may be a justification for
the hue and cry emanating from
hundreds of people for lick of in-
volvement, but my own faith and
confidence was reinforced when I
read, recently about a family from

England trying to establish new
roots in Detroit . . . Economically,
things began to look bad, then
worse . . In little over a year
everything caved in when the wife
and. mother of three was told - she
and the
had a terminal disease .
husband with no money.... Asking
no sympathy — not even feeling
sorry for .herself—her. one.request
was that she be taken back to Eng-
land to Wait out her time . . . Now
enter Ronald Kane who related
the story to Michael Mier . . in
very short order, both , men went
over to the house; and besides per-
sonal checks, presented the hus-
band with five BOAC jet plane
tickets . . . The trip baCk to Eng-
land may be a sad one but there
is no doubt that the memory of the
expanded hearts of certain Detroit-
ers will live on forever.

I have a friend—I wouldn't say
he drinks too much but he's the
only one I know who doesn't see
anything wrong with the tower of
Pisa ... Sammy Woolf (the singer,
music-maker and all-round great
guy) has his friends really talking
it up for a May testimonial dinner
in his honor, and no one is more
deserving . . . Two local Masons—
Judge Ira_ G. Kaufman and Saul

LeVine—ha- ve been nominated to
receive the 33rd degree of Masonry
Between Ruby and Joe Snider
more pens of all descriptions are
sold than by any other- distributor
in Michigan and a lot of other
states ... Ruby is so pen-consciotts
that when a young lady sidled up
to him and whispered in his ear
he deftly picked out a fancy-clipped
Pen and said, "You can use this,
and you'll also have a reserve pen
on.hand in case you need it." .. .
The American Billiard Association
will conduct its 2nd annual invita-
tional -- tournament Saturday and
Sunday, Jan_ 1647 at Ray Abrams'
Cushion 'N' Cue . . only winners
of preyious "open" tournaments
have been invited ; so those who
carp to -spectate -will see only
champions'in action, and you can
bet your last-..cushion the ivories
will be really rollin' . . . Sherre
Gladstone told me not too Iong ago
that she heard up in Alaska op-
tometrists are known as optical
"Aleutians" . . . One day while in
surgery performing for several in-
terns, Dr. Marty Friedenberg sud-
denly turned around and said,
"Will the wise guy who keeps say-
ing 'Oops,' please leave the room."
With two vacancies occurring in
the Oak Park City Council, Danny
Raskin hopes to fill one of them.
. One of the reasons Danny gives
for his new-found political ambition
is to continue the good government
of Oak Park ... . He has already
secured an excess of the required
number of signatures,- and know
ing his acumen for using unusually
good common sense, he will have
many of the- citizenry on his side
. . the primaries will be held
Feb. 15 . . . Young diary keepers
are cautioned to beware of "peep-
ing moms" . . . Internist Dr. A.
Shapiro went to Las Vegas and
while there attending a hospital
visit, he swore he law three lemons
on a patient's chart . . . Reports
insurance man Ruby Sampson:
"When a woman says she won't be
a minute, - she's usually right."
