were such known writers as Ha-
noch Bartov, Hahn Gun and
Aharon Meged.
A leader of Ahdut Avoda told
me that if he would have known in
advance of the difficulties which
the merger with Davar faces, he
would have fought in Kibuts Ha-
meuhad and within his party for
the continuation of the daily. The
members of Lamerhav are today
in a difficult situation. It is not
easy to start work in Davar in
such an unwelcome atmosphere.
Premier Golda Meir will have
to intervene personally to settle
the differences. She, Allon, Sapir,
Ben-Aharon and other party lead-
ers demand that Davar carry out
the agreement and absorb the 30
Members of Lamerhay.
There is no doubt that the inde-
pendent morning daily, Ha'aretz,
and the two evening papers will
profit from the closing of Lamer-
hay. It is hard to assume that the
members of Kibutz Hameuhad and
Ahdut Avoda, who have up to now
read Lamerhav, will agree auto-
matically to transfer their sub-
scriptions to Davar. Certainly,
some will prefer to read the inde-
pendent dailies.

The conduct of men depends on
temperament, not upon a bunch of
musty maxims. — Benjamin Dis-
raeli.
