Rabbi H. Philip Berkowitz, spin=
itual leader of Temple Beth Jacob,
and Robert Sachs, chairman of the
religious school committee, an-
nounced that the temple religious
school has instituted a new pro-
gram designed to meet more di-
rectly the needs of individual stu-
dents.
The central concept of this pro-
gram involves replacing some of
the traditional subject areas, such
as history, with topics like ethics.
The student is encouraged to de-
velop his own program from a
number of alternatives ranging
from novels like "The Fixer" to
the study of the "Ethics of the
Fathers." Workshops in music, art
and dance also are offered, and
these are coordinated with other
class work to provide a full pro-
gram.
This year, for the first time,
students are involved in basic
policy planning, both by serving on
the religious school committee and
by working on the textbook com-
mittee, which screens all new text-
books to keep the reading current.
For information, call the temple
office, 3323212.
