B utzel Award at Annual
Federation Meeting Sept. 24
The Fred NI. Butzel Memorial
Award for Communal Leadership
will be given during the annual
meeting of the Jewish Welfare
Federation of Detroit to be held
Sept. 24, at Cong. Shaarey Zedek,
Alan E. Schwartz, president, an-
nounced.
A tradition since 1951 when it
was awarded to the late Julian II.
Krolik, a Detroit man or woman
whose leadership and committ-
ment has been outstanding in
furthering the welfare of the Jew-
ish community, has been named
annually for the honor. The Fed-
eration's highest award, the Silver
Medallion, is presented to the
honoree.
A reception prior to dinner will
begin at 6 p.m. followed by din-
ner at 7.
Election of nine members-at-
large to the board of governors
of Federation is scheduled for the
business meeting.
Nominated for terms on the
board are Louis Berry, Arnold
Faudman and Stanley D. Frankel.
Nominated for re-election are
Avern L. Cohn, Samuel Frankel,
Joseph H. Jackier, Max J. Pincus,
Mrs. Arthur H. Rice and Erwin
S. Simon.
Irwin I. Cohn is chairman of the
nominating committee with Irwin
Green, Max M. Shaye, Mrs. Max
Stollman and George NI. Zeltzer
as committee members.
President Schwartz will report
on the year's many varied activi-
ties ranging from the initiation of
a seminar for young community
leaders, construction of Federa-
tion Apartments, to a record-
breaking Allied Jewish Campaign-
Israel Emergency Fund.

Maxwell Jospey, chairman of the

Emergency Fund for the past two
years, was awarded the Jewish

Wednesday night at the annual
Stag Day dinner of the Detroit
Service Group, at Tam O'Shanter
Country Club.
The professional division of the
campaign won the cup as the lead-
ing division in 1970. The honor
was awarded to the division's
chairman, Dr. Eli Brown, and his
co-chairmen, Jack Robinson and
Norman Katz.
Paul Broder presided at the
dinner meeting and participants
in the program included Jospey,
Allan Schwartz, Federation presi-
dent. and Milton Lucow, president
of Tam O'Shanter.
In addition to Jospey, honors
were extended to the campaign

co-chairmen, Nleyer Fishman, Nlax
Shaye, Sam Frankel and Richard
Sloan and it was indicated that
Fishman and Shaye are in line
for top leadership in the 1971
campaign which is expected to be
the most crucial in United Jewish
Appeal history.

Ronald Myron Sussman
MRS. MILTON SCHLOSS of Oak
Park Blvd., Oak Park, has been
awarded second place for her
needle point at the 1970 Michigan
State Fair. Last year she brought
home the first place ribbon in the
same division. In IMO, she took
third place in the Indiana State
Fair then her state residence. When
she is not needlepointing, she
works as a branch secretary for
the United Hebrew Schools. Mrs.
Schloss will teach needlepoint at
the Jewish Center.

annual commencement of the Sha-
