WHEN GEORGE BURNS comes
to town for a Saints & Sinners
meeting, ask him how he cured his
throat problem . . . Many years
ago, George was troubled by hav-
ing to clear his throat before every
sentence ... He went to one doc-
tor after another — no one could
help him Finally, someone told
him about a little-known doctor on
New York's lower East Side . .
The medic listened to George ex-
plain his problem, then stood up
and walked slowly around the room
"Doctor," Burns asked im-
patiently, "do you think you can
help me?" . . . "Of course," the
doctor replied. "The next time you
feel like you're going to clear your
throat, don't do it!"
"SAUCY SYLVIA" Stoun at the

Royal Ascot Supper Club on South-
field and Fort in Lincoln Park, is
as usual very good . . . Her enter-
taining repertoire is pleasing
crowds during a four-week limited
engagement that started a week
ago last Wednesday ... The popu-
lar Sylvia at the piano acompany-
ing herself on the "suggestive"
vocals Wednesday through Satur-
day, is a "must" on your list of
places to go.

lore.
IN THE HANDS OF A REAL
pro like Myron Cohen, the fine
art of dialect has survived ... He
s also one of the very few experts
who have! . Dialect King Cohen
likes to tell about the two part-
tiers in the cloak and suit business
who were having an argument .. .
The senior partner said, "You're
so crooked that the wool you're
pulling over my eyes is 50 per cent
cotton" . . . Or the one about the
two Jewish women in Brooklyn
who were talking, and one said to
the other, "If I live, I'll see you
Wednesday—if not, Thursday" .
The late and great Bill Robinson,
the foremost Negro star of his time,
used to get howls with the one
about a little colored soldier who
tried to break out of camp and was
stopped by the guard ... Our hero
challenged the guard with, "I've
got a mother in Heaven, a father
in hell and a girl in Harlem—and
I'm gonna see one of 'em tonight!"

MILTON BERLE ONCE played
Pittsburgh for a one-week stand
. . . On Monday he picked out a
restaurant that looked attractive
to him, and liked everything ex-
cept the bread . . . "I always eat

Finally on Saturday when she took
his order, Berle said casually,
"Just for the heck of it, I think
I'll take white bread today" . . .
"That's funny," said the waitress.
"Aren't you the party who always
orders whole wheat?"
DELICIOUS TREAT AT the
Golden Griddle on Woodward Ave.
is called Palestine Pancakes . . .
Reminds one of crepe suzettes . .
very thin pancakes rolled with sour
cream inside and cointreau on top.
TRY WINES OF ALL kinds .
In a lifetime you couldn't try them
all ... If, for example, in Germany,
drink Moselles in Trier and Rhine
Wines in Wiesbaden . . . Don't
order a Burgundy wine in Bor-
deaux or ask for a bottle of Medoc
in Dijon or Beaune . . . Wines are
best enjoyed where they are born
. . . Generally speaking, drink the
drier wines before the sweeter and
the younger before the older . . .
White wines, dry or sweet, taste
better served chilled, while red
wines are best enjoyed at room
temperature except perhaps in
very hot climates . . . But there is
ao law in these matters . .. only

PAT KENNEDY, Turk Prujan-

from California to work with him
on a couple of new songs they're
writing together . . One of her
songs before collaborating with
Turk was "Wrap Your Troubles
in Dreams" made so famous by
Bing Crosby . . . Turk at Angel's
Hour Glass on W. McNichols, west
of Southfield, is the talk of the
town in nitery circles .. . His un-
believable magnetic personality ...
host of hosts, celebrity to the cele-

Tuesday, he reminded her about
the whole wheat, but was served
white bread again . . . Wednesday
she made the same mistake, not to
mention Thursday and Friday . .
