Seat in District 19
Leonard P. Baruch, Democratic
candidate for representative from
the 64th District, is running on a
"people-oriented" platform.
The father of three school-age
children, Baruch said that as li-
brarian for the Detroit Board of
Education a n d
director of Camp r

osk ey, he has
had an opportu-

of the state and its people.
Vice-president of the Southfield
Library Board, Baruch holds both
ES and MA degrees from Wayne
State University and is a veteran
of World War II.
Ronald Hecker, vice chairman
of the 19th District Democratic
Party and chairman of the Li-
vonia Democratic Club, announced
he is a candidate for Congress
in the 19th District.
Hecker, in his campaign for
congress called for support of the
Senate amendments to end the
war in Indo-China and urged that
the U.S. sell arms to Israel so
as to maintain the balance of pow-
er in the Middle East and pre-
serve the existence of Israel.
Hecker further called for the U.S.
to persuade the Arabs and Israelis
to enter into immediate peace ne-
gotiations.
Hecker added that he agreed
with the President that the
greatest danger to U.S. and
world peace was in the Middle
East and not Indo China, and it
is the Arab nations, not Israel,
that are threatening to drive
their enemy Into the sea. Until
true peace can be achieved, Is-
rael must maintain a military
superiority over the Arab na-
tions, he said.
Hecker, a member of Temple
Kol Ami and Bnai Brith, lives
with his wife and two children in
Livonia.
The 19th District is composed of

Annetta Miller Warns
of Shift in Balance
if Israel Bid Unheeded
Mrs. Annetta Miller, candidate
for Congress in the 18th District,
has issued a statement calling for
immediate sale of U.S. jets to Is-
rael to maintain the balance of
power that is in danger of tipping
away from her favor.
"Reports of the presence of
Soviet pilots flying operational
missions in Egyptian aircraft and
the installation of SAM-3's in Cen-
tral Egypt raises the immediate
threat of an escalation of the Arab-
Israeli conflict," said Mrs. Miller.
A realistic American policy re-
quires that we counteract Soviet
military assistance to the Arab
states by providing Israel witn
military equipment to deter this
aggression."
"Israel today needs planes and
other military hardware, not prom-
ises. The excuse that Israeli air
supremacy indicates that she does
not need more jets is no longer
valid. Her recent losses in aircraft
prove that the military balance in
that area is rapidly changing. We
cannot falter or delay in providing
Israel military aid for to refuse
is to offer an open invitation to
further incursions by the Soviets."
