Emanuel J. Trobe of Leeds,
England, father of Mrs. Bruce
(Carol) Keidan , Detroiter, died
last week at his home, at the age
of 57.
Surviving are two other daugh-
ters, Mrs. Jerry Riche and Mrs.
Beryl Baton, both of Leeds.
Mr. Trobe, who was active in
the Leedi Jewish community,
visited here with his daughter for
Passover, before he had taken ill.

Dr. Harry Friedgood, Pioneer
in Human, Medical Ecology
Former Detroiter Dr. Harry
Bernard Friedgood, a pioneer in
the fields of human and medical
ecology, died last Saturday in
Celetna, Czechoslovakia, where he
had been developing plans for an
international convocation on hu-
man ecology.
Dr. Friedgood, who was plan-
ning to accept the post of profes-
sor of human ecology and philo-
sophy at Heidelberg, was founder
of the California Institute for Can-
cer Research at UCLA and was
president from 1945 to 1952.
Educated in his early years at
Northern High School, Dr. Fried-
good attended the University of
Michigan. Among his survivors,
besides three daughters, a son and
sister in Los Angeles, are two
sisters in Detroit, Mrs. Bertha
Brotman and Mrs. Jack (Ida)
Stattmann.
Joshua E. Matz, 71,

NEW YORK — Prof. Joshua E.
Matz, treasurer of Yeshiva Univer-
sity and member of the faculty
and administration there for al-
most 50 years, died May 26 at age

education and research and was
responsible for reorganization of
the Indian medical school post
graduate programs.
As associate clinical professor of
medicine, Dr. Friedgood repre-
sented the Hooper Foundation of
the San Francisco Medical Center
of the University of California as
consultant to founders of a new
medical school at Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia.
He was a member of many pro-
fessional bodies and a U.S. delegate
to the World Health Organization
conferences around the world. Dr.
Friedgood authored many articles,
monographs and books on glandu-
lar diseases, psychosomatic medi-
cine, medical education and medi-
cal ecology.

Mr. Levine had been living in
