support for the seminary as "the
storehouse of Jewish learning."

Declaring that "no civilized corn
munity can survive without an in-
tellectual center," that Jewish
ideas must grow in centers of
learning and that "continuty of
history must be maintained out of
centers of study," Judge Rifkind
admonished that failure is attribut-
able to loss of self-respect and then
there emerges a loss of respect
from others. He warned against
the growth of a disinherited gen-
eration which spells social disinte-
gration and urged, to prevent it,
the strengthening of Jewish cul-
tural values.
Developing his theme, Judge Rif-
kind pointed to the many activi-
ties of the Jewish Theological
Seminary, including the Eternal
Light programs, the work of the
