Shavuot Holiday to Be Marked

The two-day festival of Shavuot,
the Feast of Weeks, will be ob-
served by the Jewish community
next week, starting at sundown
Tuesday. Yizkor services are
scheduled on the concluding day.
Those congregations which have
listed their services are as follows:
Young Israel of Greenfield will
hold services 7:50 Tuesday and 8
p.m. Wednesday, with morning
services Wednesday and Thursday
starting at 9. Yizkor will be recited
11 a.m. Thursday. Rabbi Samuel
H. Prero will speak on "The Rele-
vance of Torah Today" and "Does
the Future Belong to the Youth?"
on the two mornings.
Temple Beth El services will be
held 10:30 a.m. Wednes d ay. Rabbi
Morton Kanter will speak on "The
Torah: Symbol of Our Strength."
Cong. Beth Achim will hold its
in-town services 6:30 p.m. Tuesday
and 8:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wed-
nesday. Rabbi Benjamin H. Gor-
relick will preach on "The Basic
Imperatives of Torah." Thursday
services will be at 8:45 a.m. and
6:30 p.m. with Yizkor at 10:30
a.m. Rabbi Gorrelick will speak
on "Receiving and Giving of the
Torah." Suburban services will
take place 7:45 p.m. Tuesday and
8:45 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. Wednes-
day. Rabbi Milton Arm will
preach "The Heavenly Gift and
the Earthly Response." Thursday
services will be at 8:45 a.m. and
7:45 p.m. with Yizkor at 10:30
a.m. Rabbi Arm will speak on
"The Tradition of Wisdom." In-
place.

At 10:30 p.m., the synagogue will
reopen for Torah study throughout
the night. A special study session
for teens will be held in the chapel,

Carl Heifetz Heads Beth El Marrieds

Dr. Carl Heifetz was elected
president of the Married Group of
Temple Beth El at the annual
meeting.

dent.
Dr. Heiftez was graduated from
the Baltimore City College and re-
ceived his doctor of philosophy
degree from the University of
Maryland. He served as president
of the youth group of Chizuk
Amuno Congregation in Baltimore
and as president of the Seaboard
Region of the youth groups of the
United Synagogue of America. He
is presently associated with Parke-
Davis Co. as research microbiolo-
gist.
