The annual Hebrew Music Fes-
tival of Temple Beth El will be
held 8:30 p.m. today featuring "An
Evening of Liturgical Music," com-
posed and directed by Prof. Max
Janowski of Chicago.
Cantor Maurice Levy of Chi-
cago's Khilat Jeshurun Synagogue,
and Beatrice Horwitz, contralto of
Chicago's KAM Choir, will be
guest soloists, supported by the
choirs of KAM Temple and Temple
Beth El. Rabbi Richard C. Hertz
will be narrator. The public is
invited.
Janowski received his musical
education from the Scharwenka
Conservatory in Berlin and the
Imperial Academy of Music in
Tokyo. He has been music di-
rector of KAM Temple for more
than 30 years.
Cantor Levy, son of a rabbi,
sang in the choirs of world-famous
cantors and received his education
at the Hebrew Theological College
in Chicago. He has made numerous
appearances on the concert stage,
radio and television.
Miss Horwitz, daughter of a can-
tor, has been a leading soloist with
Chicago synagogues and is fre-
quently heard on radio, television
and on the concert stage.
