WHO SAID SAMMY LIEBER
MAN at Raleigh House is going
strictly commercial? . . . Don't
believe a word of it! . . . Sammy
is as strong as ever in the bar
mitzva, banquet and wedding
fields! . . . In fact, even stronger
what with the ever new tricks of
the trade he continues to discover
and pass on to folks having par-
ties at Raleigh House.
ERRATA . . . Its JASSY not
Jaffe . . . sorry Edith and David
for the wrong spelling of your last
name in a recent column -item.
COMMUNITY SEEN . . . The
young boy picking up a scrap of
paper thrown from a parked car
on Sussex in Oak Park and say-
ing, "Please, mister, I live on this
block!"
GET WELL WISHES . . . to Al
Goldberg of Business Girl shops in
Windsor . . . He is in Room 325 at
1.0.D.E. Hospital across the river.
AT THE RECENT house-warm-
ing party given by Andrea and
Rudy Spitzler, their young daugh-
ter, Shirley Ann, told her mother
that she wanted to whisper some-
thing . . "Darling," said Andrea,
"big girls that are nearly five
never whisper before company"
. . . to which little Shirey Ann
replied, "All right then, but that
man over there took another piece
of cake when you weren't looking."
CALLING ROSE & NAT GUR-
WIN . . . Remember back in 1961
when fellows on a Detroit Sanita-
tion Dept. truck thought they were
seeing things after stopping for a
pickup at your home on Wiscon-
sin? . . . Neighbors Bob Stutz and
Dr. Abe Godwin had reason to
complain that their garbage wasn't
good enough! . . . Luscious-looking
steaks, chops and what have you
were included in the $200 worth
of delicacies that had spoiled
when your refrigerator went on
the blink.
ASKED HOW HE LIKED going
to school, 6-year-old Mervin Samp-
son, son of Alice and Ray Samp-
son, replied, "Oh, I like the
going all right, and I like coming
back too. Its having to stay after
I get there that I don't like."
IN ITS 86-YEAR history, Knights
of Pythias, Detroit Lodge 55 has
had only three men achieve the
rank of grand chancellor of the
State of Michigan . . . Frank Ber-
man in 1925, Sam Raskin in 1944
and Bernard Bolton in 1962 . .
Grand Prelate Leonard Goldman,
who was honored at a testimonial
dinner by the lodge last week, will
become number four in 1972.
LOOKING BACK ON COLUMNS
OF YESTERYEARS . . . Oct. 6,
1944. . . At a USO dance in Lees-
ville, La.. Pvt. Jerry Gorzeck cut
in on a GI and discovered him to
be Sgt. Leo Williams, a Gamma
Chi brother from Detroit . . In
elation at seeing each other again,
they began walking off the floor
not remembering _until they both
sat down at a table that the girl
was still standing in the middle
of the floor!
VERY INTERESTING TO NOTE
.. . that the only TV stations with
special Passover programming are
2, 4, 7 and 56.
