FRIDAY SPECIAL!

Two Washington Boulevard
snake meat in public .. In Hous-
ton, Texas, the law stipulates that
you cannot buy rye bread, goose
liver or limburger cheese on Sun-
day, and if you do, you cannot
take it out of the store . . An
old Los Angeles ordinance states
that pickle-making carried on at
any point within the city limits
where the aroma might offend the
nostrils of a passerby, is a viola-
tion of the law and punishable by
a fine . . . In faraway Connec-
ticut, on the other side of the
country, it is illegal to sell pickles
which, when dropped 12 inches,
collapse in their own juice . .
They must remain whole and even
bounce.
RONNIE PHILLIPS IS the fine
pianist at Skandia on James Cou-
zens near Greenfield . . . His ver-
satile styling on the 88 makes for
very easy listening.
FROM ATOP MICHIGAN Con-
solidated Gas Company's ultra
modern headquarters, 320 feet
above the civic center, Stouffer's
Top of the Flame restaurant com-
mands an unequaled view of De-
troit, the river and the 'Canadian
countryside . . . Delicate paintings
and carvings from Thailand high-
light the Far Eastern decor, and
a variety of Oriental specialties
share the menu with traditional
American cuisine.
HERE'S A QUICK AND easy
main dish . . . Heat together 1 can
condensed cream of mushroom
soup, 1/4 cup Sherry wine, 2 table-
spoons cream . . . Add 1 cup
flaked tuna - . Serve over toast,
waffles or rice . .. Serves 3 . . .
By the way, scrambled eggs come
out of the breakfast class if you
add about 2 tablespoons of sherry
for six eggs when they are cook-
ing.
PENNSYLVANIA LAW SAYS
that all restaurants must be
equipped with stretchers and
wheel chairs . . . (never thought
the food there was THAT bad !)
OVERHEARD AT . . . BILLY'S,
"A smart female is one who quits
playing ball when she makes a
good catch." . . . ALVARO'S, "An
optimist is a guy who falls out of
a 20-story bldg. and as lie passes
every story, he says, "Well, so
far I'm all right !" HOA NOW,
"Did you ever notice when g girl
tries on a sweater for the first
time she turns sideways to admire
herself?"
A "SPRING INTO SPRING"
fling at Hotel Pontchartrain, fea-
tures a new undercover Sidewalk
Cafe set up inside Le Cafe, special
drinks and bills of fare, a cele-
brity menu in the Salamandre
Bar, fashion showings, palm read-
ers, sketch artists, camera girls,
a bosses' and secretaries' special
luncheon in La Mediterranee,
and in La Boheme - . . far-out
Friday costumes for waitresses
. . . From the Top of the Ponch
to the motor driveway, are flow-
ers everywhere.
JACK FREED AT the Apart-
ment Lounge on W. McNichols,
west of Southfield, tells of a flashy
character barging into a friend's
bar recently and demanding a dou-
ble jigger of Scotch, downing it in
one gulp, plunking a $5 bill on
the counter and walking out with-
out another word . . . The bar-
tender folded the five-spot care-
fully, and remarked, "Can you
beat a phony like that? Laps up
a double Scotch, leaves a $5 tip
and beats it without paying !"
A BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ordi-
nance rules it unlawful for a res-
taurant operator to sweep the
floor . ... Wouldn't it be great
if somebody passed a law against
both proprietors and employes
sweeping floors while a person
was eating?
