Sholem Aleichem Sets Music Evening

"An Evening of Jewish Music" is the theme of a concert to be
presented 8:30 p.m. April 11 at the Sholem Aleichem Institute. The
soloists (from left, standing) are Sidney Resnick, Anne Jaffe, Shirley
Benyas and Leo Mogul. They will be accompanied by Bella Goldberg
(seated). The program includes Yiddish folk music, Israeli songs,
liturgical compositions and special selections from master composers,
Solomon Rossi, Daniel Milhaud and Maurice Ravel, who were influ-
enced by Jewish themes or Jewish texts. Mrs. Goldberg will make
one of her farewell appearances at the concert. She leaves shortly to
make her home in Israel. Refreshments will follow the concert-

Board will hold its annual Senior
Adult Conference in Detroit May
3-5.
Theme this year is "Facing the
Challenge of the '70s for Senior
Adults." Several areas of concern
will be discussed. Keynote speaker
will be Michigan's- Congresswoman
Martha W. Griffiths.

meeting since January to plan
the conference are from cities in
Ohio; New York, Missouri, Indi-
ana, Pennsylvania and Ontario.

The National Jewish Welfare
Board's Commission on Jewish
Chaplaincy has received an official
communication from the director
of the Selective Service System
announcing that all draft boards
have been requested to give "fav-
orable consideration, wherever pos-
sible," to requests of registrants of
the Jewish faith for postponements
of physical examination or induc-
tion into the Armed Forces during
Passover.
This communication, addressed
to Rabbi Edward T. Sandrow of
Temple Beth El, Cedarhurst, N.Y.,
chairman of the JWB commission
on Jewish chaplaincy, was Selec-
tive Service Operations Bulletin
No. 81, amended as of July 1, 1969,
entitled "Jewish Holy Days." The
bulletin gives Jewish registrants
scheduled for physical examination
or induction immediately prior to
or during the holiday the right to
request deferment until after Pass-
over. Requests for such deferment
should be made directly to local
draft boards.
Passover begins at sundown
April. 20 and continues through sun-
down on April 28.
