KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS, Detroi
Lodge No. 55, is contemplating
building a new Castle Hall with
two other Pythian lodges out Tele-
graph Rd. near Pontiac. . . . One
of the groups has the valuable land
and wants to work out something
to erect a magnificent structure
complete with lounge, recreation
areas, meeting and banquet rooms,
etc.... Would be open every day.
STORY IS TOLD BY Judge Mar:
vin Frankel . . . about the busi-
nessman who had occasion to con-
sult a lawyer and went to his office
for advice. . . . Later, he ran into
an acquaintance and told of his
experience. . . . "But why spend
money for a lawyer?" he was
asked. "When you sat in his office,
didn't you see all the law books
there? Well, you see! What he told !
you, you could read for yourself in
those books." . . . "Yes," said the
businessman, "Yes, that's very
true, but that lawyer knows what
page its on."
BEFORE LEAVING FOR the
Army in January, Shel Wolfe came
here to visit parents Moley and
Ruth Wolfe . . . and then returned
to be with girlfriend Diane Levine
on the coast ... Shel graduated in
June from Wayne State U. with a
BS in psychology' . . . and was
working on his masters at San
Fernando State College . . He'll
still have some of that good Cali-
fornia climate while in khakis—
for how long nobody knows . .
Shel goes to Fort Orth, Monterey.
CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT . . . a
couple finally capped a long search
for an apartment, but never got to
move in . . . Learning of their
child, the manager refused them
rental . . . saying that no children
were allowed. . . . Strange part of
it all is that the manager has three
youngsters of his own. . . . The
apartment owner is father of six.
BACK FROM A TRIP to Arizona,
Herman Stine, ladies wear man,
reports the service station at the
edge of the desert . . . with the
shingle hanging out front that
bears this strange legend . .
"Don't ask us for information. If
we knew anything we wouldn't be
here."
TRAVELING GENT Ed Wolfe
has the Ohio polce stumped . . .
and he's mighty glad, too! . . .
Driving back from Memphis. his
car hit a patch of ice and turned
over into a 25-foot embankment.
. . . They can't figure out how he
came out alive ... but all he cares
about is that he did!
LOOKING BACK ON columns of
yesteryears . . . MAY 15, 1946
... "Theodore Levin, local lawyer,
may receive an appointment as
Federal District Judge . . . The
wheels are moving."
CALLING BILLY (FIELDS)
FELSENFED Remember back
in 1949 when you were one of the
entertainers on the "Club North-
west" show by youth group of,
Northwest Hebrew Congregation? !
(later renamed Adas Shalom) .. .!
You were the minicking pantomi-
mist star who made a profession
out of a hobby ... after becoming
so good that friends pleaded with
you to go into show business. . . .
The night of your first club engage-
ment, Billy, you were ready to quit
when your audience broke out into
laughter as you began a serious
Al Jolson routine. . . . But every-
thing turned out all right and you
became a hit overnight. You
had just forgotten to remove the
fake nose after doing a Jimmy
Durante number!
