Jewish Students Combat Arab Propaganda

By BEN GALLOB

(Copy right 1969. JTA. Inc.)

An accelerating program of Arab-
sponsored. anti-Israel — and some-
times anti-Semitic—propaganda
activities on American college
campuses is being combated con-
sistently by Jewish students, ac-
cording to a report from the •\ mer-
ican Zionist Youth Foundatl
- The propaganda activities are
organized by Arab student groups
with occasional assists from mili-
tant student leftists.
Assistance to the Jewish students
for the counter-effort and for a
wide variety of other pro-Israel
programs on the campuses is pro-
vided by the AZYF through its
university service department,
which has arranged for student
Zionist representation on 38 of the
campuses. The departme;:t also
works with Jewish student organi-
zations on more than 80 campuses.
Philip Horn, director of the uni-
versity service department, said
that the department provides the
student groups with program ideas
and materials from many sources,
including appropriate materials de-
veloped by other Jewish organiza-
tions.
The AZYF report said that the
Arab propaganda program seeks

to reach not only radical students
and black militants. but also the
general student bodies. Methods
reported in use include enlistment
of faculty members, development
of university programs and courses,
efforts to influence public debates
"and a concerted and active cam-
paign to influence the editorial
policy of campus newspapers."
Hostile articles have been pub-
lished in the past in student
i newspapers at Brandeis Univer-
sity, Michigan State, University
of Michigan and Wayne State
University, all of which were an-
swered. A Jewish Action Com-
mittee was created at Wayne
State to combat anti-Israel and
anti-Jewish material in the cam-
pus paper, South End, which
evoked widespread concern in
the local Jewish community.
After informal talks were held
with South End editors, the pe-
riodical published material giv-
ing Israel's case.
At New York State University in
Buffalo, stamps of the Arab ter-
rorist El Fatah were on sale in the
Afro-Asian bookstore, and a vulgar
anti-Israel poem was printed in the
campus underground newspapers.
After complaints were voiced, the
paper published replies from indig-
nant Israeli students. An ad hoc

committee was set up to challenge
Arab propaganda on the campus.
A major anti-Israel program was
staged last spring at Columbia
University. There, local chapters
of the Arab Student Organization,
Youth Against War and Fascism
and other militant leftist and for-
eign student groups conducted a
"teach-in" at which one of the fea-
tured speakers was George Tomeh,
the Syrian ambassador to the
United Nations.
The AZYF said that while the
meeting had been advertised as
' open to the general public, persons
seeking admission had to make
contributions to El Fatah, and that
only after all 200 seats in the audi-
torium had been filled were Israeli
and American Jewish students ad-
mitted.
The report added that a squad
of "strong-arm" men wearing
Fatah buttons patrolled the audi-
ence. No questions by the Israelis
or the local Jewish students were
permitted, and some efforts were
made to forcibly evict those stu-
dents, leading to several fist fights.
The Jewish response was a teach-
in sponsored by Kadimah, Yavneh
and the Israel Students Organiza-
tion. A crowd of 1,200 persons
came to hear an address by Israeli
Ambassador Itzhak Rabin.

In 10 Days Lose
10 Lbs. On
Grapefruit Diet

;

TEL AVIV, Israel — This is the
revolutionary grapefruit special
diet that is exciting the nation.
Thousands have been passing
copies of it from §-land-to-hand
in offices, plants, and factories
throughout the country.

Because this diet really works,
we have testimonials reporting on
its success. If you follow it exact-
ly, you should LOSE 10 LBS. IN
10 DAYS. No weight loss in the
first four days—but you will sud-
denly drop 5 lbs. by the 5th day.
Thereafter lose a pound a day until
the 10th day. Then you will lose
I' lbs. every two days until you
get down to your proper weight.
Best of all, you will have no hun-
ger pangs. Revised and enlarged,
this diet lets you stuff yourself ;
with formerly "forbidden" foods
such as steaks trimmed with fat,
roast or fried chicken, gravies, I
mayonnaise or fish swimming in
butter or oil, frankfurters and
scrambled eggs and still lose
weight. The secret behind this
"quick weight loss" diet is simple.
Fat doesn't form fat and the grape -
fruit juice in this diet acts as the
"trigger" to start the fat-burning
process. You stuff yourself on the
permitted food listed in the diet
plan, and still lose unsightly fat
and excess bodily fluids. A copy

TEL AVIV (JTA)—Israeli ar-
chaeologists have discovered a site
in the southernmost portion of the
Sinai Peninsula which they believe
dates back to the year 2487 BC,
well before the exodus of the Is-
raelites from Egypt, as recounted
in the Bible.
The site was one of 82 found in
the Sinai by a Tel Aviv University
archaeological team headed by Dr.
Benno Rothenberg. It is believed
to have been a mining camp.
A hieroglyphic inscription carv-
ed in the rock by "The Men of Se-
hure, King of Egypt," spoke of
"Toth. lord of fear, destroyer of
Asia."
Dr. Rothenberg said the site was
a large turquoise and copper min-
ing center and contained the re-
mains of smelters and dwellings
used by the miners.
